How Encanvas CDP Introduced Overall Eesti to its Most Profitable Customers

Overall Eesti is one of the most progressive Office Equipment and technology businesses in Europe.  This family-run business, that began as a small Canon photocopier business in Tallinn, Estonia, today re-markets its software innovations through Canon across Europe.   The Joint CEO, Tonis Haamer is passionate about customer experience, and profitability.  Faced with declining print volumes and harsher trading conditions, Tonis knew he had to transform his business into a digital enterprise.

Location: Tallinn, Estonia (Europe)

The Business Challenge

The management team of Overall wanted to create a single-view of its customers, to focus its sales efforts on the most profitable customers (and prospects) and to automate processes.  Underpinning these goals was an acceptance that the company needed to become ‘data-driven.’  The driver for this agenda,  came from a decision by the Estonian government to transition its economy to be the most digitally-enabled in Europe; a decision that all but eradicated print from many offices.

Options

Outsourcing the requirement to a market research/advisory business.  No other third-party solution was thought capable to meet the project needs.  Due to project complexity and timescales, an internal solution was initially thought unlikely to gain the sponsorship of senior managers.

What We Delivered

  • Assimilation of ‘the big picture’ of customer activity and transactional behaviors in a single view by harvesting and organizing data assets from across the enterprise
  • The creation of data-connections between silos of data across the business that didn’t exist before (making analysis impossible)
  • Transparency across the business powered by access to key data – made easy to comprehend using visualizations, dashboards and alerts
  • Dynamic and interactive drill-down data-views
  • Deepest knowledge of business activities, success factors and results
  • Formulation of action plans driven by real-time insights
  • The transformation of the Service Management role to become a data analyst more than anything else!
  • The means to ask new questions on data and to adapt the platform extremely rapidly (i.e. new KPI, new goal)
  • The application ecosystem needed to create new apps over time to automate processes identified as candidates for improvement
    Results

The in-house technical team leveraged the feature-set found in Encanvas CDP to install robust data transforms, and create a holistic data mart to house customer insights.

Additionally, Overall Eesti installed Encanvas AppFabric to equip the business with the ability to act on the insights they uncovered to automate any poor performing processes.

The dev team used the extensive UI tailoring and integration options of Encanvas to adapt the core Encanvas platform with third-party data visualizations and drag-and-drop displays to achieve the result they were seeking.

    LONDON, INTERNATIONAL

STREAM is a next-generation cloud and mobile Vendor Management System developed using ENCANVAS by the technology innovation team of Newton Day Ltd.  Find out what the team chose our platform – and what they did with it…

    The Problem

In response to the fast pace of change in the digital era, the world of business is transitioning to a flexible workforce made up of contracted and ‘gig’ workers.  Newton Day identified a technology innovation opportunity with its partner businesses to serve growing contingent workforce management demands.  The first generation of SaaS-based VMS solutions were designed around the presumption businesses would hire a Managed Service Provider (MSP) to outsource their people management and indirect staffing vendor supply-chain.  Newton Day saw an opportunity to create a new generation of VMS that displaced the ‘human-in-the-loop’ to provide larger economies to buyers.

    The Solution

The STREAM project team used ENCANVAS to create:

    • A multi-stakeholder Contingent Workforce VMS that provided a tailored portal to each User Group
    • With integrated email automations to displace the need for on premise program management and admin roles
    • Used Encanvas Document Management and handling features to ensure required legal documents were uploaded by suppliers and workers
    • Employed algorithms to calculate pay rates when workers submitted timesheets based on their contract and employment law
    • Supported rich performance reporting and dashboards to make the entire supply-chain transparent
    • Integrated with client ERP and financial systems to streamline purchase-to-pay
    • Mobile enablement allowed approvals to be made within notification emails so Users don’t log-in to the online system

      The Results

The total project was delivered on-time and on-budget.  The project team were able to harness the features of Encanvas –  particularly its document management, email workflow and integration possibilities with host systems – to bring additional value to the project that wasn’t originally considered.

For WDB Investment Holdings, lending money was as much about transforming the social landscape as it was business opportunity.  WDB is a women-led provider of micro loans, advice and mentoring to emerging women farmers and entrepreneurs.

      Johannesburg, South Africa

      The Business Challenge

WDB had no consistent and reliable way of knowing if the outcomes were being delivered. Their business model was not mapped onto and supported by their processes and underlying technology.

      What We Delivered

      • Internal, top-level articulation and agreement on what WDB’s outcomes should be (their business model).
      • Developed and implemented an aligned platform that gave ‘I need …’ through to ‘look what I’ve achieved’ vetting/approval workflow, decision-prompting robots, alerts, allocation of tasks and prompted follow-up all in one system on one platform.
      • ROI achieved in months but, most importantly, WDB’s sponsors finally saw the great results of the resources they provided to WDB – WDB upped its performance and value to that society

        Results

        • The resulting systems have enabled WDB to streamline their back-office and commit more of their team to the value-adding roles needed to execute out on their business plan.

West Sussex County Council Makes Plans With Encanvas

West Sussex County Council’s Traffic Management team is responsible for its local road network.  When the Traffic Management Act, 2004 came into force, the Traffic Manager realized that it was no longer possible to continue with outmoded methods of cross border advanced planning with roadworks undertakers.

        London, UK

        The Business Challenge

Whilst maintaining almost 4,000 km of public roads, West Sussex County Council receives between 3,000 and 3500 street works notices per week.

The four employees allocated to validating incoming notices were struggling to meet their three day SLA deadlines.  The checks were manually intensive and involved data from a variety of separate IT systems.  Dummy notices for temporary traffic lights were being entered into the street works package and these had to be purged from the system later, requiring further effort.  The whole process was expensive, reactive and hard to prioritize.

        What We Did

Encanvas was used to create a web portal and collect and display all relevant information on a single map display.  This allowed much faster visual inspection than was possible previously.  The dummy notices were entered into the portal.

        What We Delivered

        • Support, ideas and coordination in the design and articulation of the multitude of associated processes. In this respect, we drew heavily on our intense experience in this domain that was the result of the work that we had done with Transport for London.
        • Developed and hosted platforms on which the business processes were mapped, and the outcomes delivered.

          Results

Through the implementation of this solution. West Sussex County Council became one of the first councils in the UK to become fully compliant with the TMA thus increasing the effectiveness of their roles in delivering a better quality of life to their citizens.

Transport for London had a challenge:  The capital of England was plagued by road works, over a million a year.  It was becoming a major inhibitor to growth and cost to business.  Worse still, in 2004 the capital was getting ready for Crossrail and the London Olympics.  Find out how TFL used ENCANVAS to help 100 organizations to share streetworks advanced plans.

          London, UK

          The Business Challenge

The Traffic Management Act, 2004 (TMA) placed a huge burden on road owners and those authorized to break the surface of roads for utilities-related works etc. The TMA requires them to coordinate their activities in order to reduce the economic and social impact of road works and associated disruptions.

TfL, the body overseeing London’s roads – which are owned by 36 local authorities and other agencies – had no business processes for producing the outcomes stipulated in the TMA. These had to be conceived and developed.

          What We Delivered

          • Support, ideas and coordination in the design and articulation of the multitude of associated processes.
          • Developed a pilot system in almost-real-time onto which the process was mapped and orchestrated allowing near-instant testing and validation and any necessary changes and iterations to be made.
          • Hosted a productionized version of the final design of the platform on behalf of TfL that met all stakeholders’ requirements.

            Results

The cooperation, goodwill and concerted joint actions to reduce the impact of roadworks – the reason for the TMA – as well as cash ROIs for the utility companies were achieved right from the initial roll-out.
